Snake Facts

With the exception of Antarctica, snakes are everywhere on the globe in warm and temperate geographical areas. Snakes vary in size from a few centimeters to more than nine meters in the case of the anacondas or the pythons. Venomous snakes are a minority in this incredibly large reptile family, but venom they inject in prey is so powerful that it could cause the death of a human being within a few minutes. According to studies, the history and origins of snakes are lost in the Cretaceous period, some 150 million years ago, when snakes are assumed to have evolved from a lizard and adapted to a different living environment.

Primitive distinctive marks of this ancestry are still present with some snakes, this is the case with pythons and boas that still carry hind limbs remains, which only make us think of a past when snakes resembled lizards a lot more. Snakes or serpents are present in all cultures, carrying symbolic meanings and being widely illustrated in the arts. Mankind hunted down or worshiped snakes throughout its history; yet, modern attitudes have changed towards snakes particularly under the emphasis of the ecological movements that insist on the importance of these creatures for the balance of ecosystems. And they couldn’t be more right.

Fascinating details in the lives of snakes indicate that not everything has been discovered about the many existing species. Thus, it is interesting to study how the patterns on the body of snakes differentiate between individuals even within the same species. Then, snakes’ response to vibrations, the superior sense of smell and even the reception of low frequency sounds make them pretty out of the ordinary. Infrared sensitivity and the ability to detect body warmth from the distance, causes further awe among snakes researchers.

Common habitats for humans and snakes are a reality, and people living in areas with a higher variety of snake species and sub-species develop skills to distinguish between the hazardous or harmless varieties, and thus they reduce the risk of snakebites. Non-venomous snakes could also bite and injure one seriously when threatened, therefore, a healthy attitude towards such animals will save you a lot of trouble. Do not attempt to catch, hunt or kill snakes: they only feed and defend themselves as they cannot hold grudge and follow you just for the sake of biting. Be extremely cautious when keeping snakes as pets.

Snake Repellant

Getting rid of snakes is quite of challenge in globe areas where people die because of snake bites. At present, ingenious inventors have come up with special snake repellant systems, yet, besides the ready made items, there are common sense things that you can turn to so as eliminate the chances of snakes making their nest in your garden. First of all, bushes, shrubs and ponds are great snake habitats, as they provide a great hiding corner to stalk on prey; moreover, in a bushy garden, snakes can travel from one location to another without difficulty. Therefore, a first snake repellant solution is to keep thick vegetation away from the house.

Then, tall grass on an unkempt lawn represents a good hiding place for snakes, therefore, lawn mowing makes one second snake repellant means you should have in mind. Moreover, such a lawn represents the ideal environment for some of the favorite meals in the menu of a snake: locusts, small rodents, mice, crickets and even frogs. A short lawn will be avoided by snakes as an open space that makes them easy prey for other predatory species like hawks and owls. Crowded areas close to the house could pose just the same risk of, becoming nests for venomous or non-venomous snakes. Hence, do not allow any piles of wood, open garages and compost heaps around the house.

In African wilderness, local people knit camel or goat hair ropes as great snake repellant means: snakes do not slither over such rough surfaces. Aborigines will often guard their open-air sleeping area with such ropes to protect. A similar snake repellent principle is followed in tent design, which is why there are zipped nets used in order to prevent snakes and other insects from getting inside. Always check whether the entrance of the tent is well zipped, preferably in the upper part of the tent closing area, or else you could end up sharing your bed with uninvited guests.

Snake repellants are also sold as foams, nets and all sorts of protections for window sills for instance. Many such equipments are considered controversial according to animal rights protection. Consequently, it would be wise to focus on harmless snake repellant ways. If by any chance you come across dangerous snakes nesting in your garden, do not attempt to kill or chase them away, as they will attack when threatened. Turn to some pest control service and have the animals safely removed, and no harm will be done to either party.

Question – Pet Reptile …
What is the best reptile pet may have?

What is the best pet you could have this snake is fierce and he eats mice and other animals? explain reptiles and class.

I was in an exhibition of reptiles this morning and came to see most of these animals. From the most spectacular According to the law where you live, the more "vicious" pet reptiles, I would say it would be a Nile monitor, crocodile, anaconda, Cayman turtle, or any other of a long list of venomous snakes. If you're illegal, they have one. It is unfair and immature to buy an animal that can not receive veterinary care, or to find adequate supplies. Because I had to ask this question, however, I recommend that all the foregoing. They are expensive, messy, and are living things that require very careful. They could also seriously damage your health. None of them is remotely for beginners. Herp amateur amateur should start with a corn snake, a leopard gecko, bearded dragon, or something more common in the pet trade servants. If you do this to impress women (or dudes, I'm not here to judge!) Think about this: Nobody is impressed by a man a vicious animal who does not and can not manage or control, and it feels good, for not having the space to sit in shit all day. Well, maybe a total of Bimbo would be impressed, but then who wants to impress? : O Before buying a pet, please, the adult thing responsible and get a book published recently. Most of the time Herp owners do not know what they stand it is too late and a little money and perhaps end up with a dead animal. amended: "to explain the reptiles and its type." Varan the Nile originating in parts of Africa. It grows more 6 feet. Sharp teeth, extreme speed, sharp claws. Semi-aquatic. Very expensive to maintain properly. Alligator: Lives 50 + years. American crocodiles are from … America! Increases to 7.15 meters (depends on gender). Super expensive to maintain, and a bite can be deadly: o Anaconda: Native South America. 20-30 feet. Fast, biting, nasty, hard as hell. Semi-aquatic, aquatic tilted. Very expensive to build a fairly large enclosure to keep an adult safely locked away. Nasty to clean – a lot of work. Totally can kill your ass, lol. Alligator snapping turtle: native states of the weather more hot, USA. Grows 15 "-26" AVG May, but also more important. Completely aquatic. He sits and does nothing more than a piece with a bite if you go too fast. Gross confused when adults. Time to go on an animal that basically just sits and hides. I would also add that if you Looking strange and exotic pet you can handle, consider a giant Madagascar Roach, G. rosea tarantula or a scorpion emperor. The cockroach can not do damage whatsoever but it is very interesting and very little maintenance. The g. rosea should not be treated unless they are scared or you can drop and kill. I was bitten and it's really not so bad (think hamster bites are worse, but I got a bite of my pink hair), and you can not kill. The emperor scorpion can kill you and there is little maintenance, but I think my "look, not touch" a sort of pet. They also really cool glow under a UV black light! :)

These mini-greenhouses autonomous miniature efficient recycling of moisture. Plants extract water from soil and which are released into the atmosphere through transpiration terrarium, condenses on the glass walls and comes back to Earth. Occasional supplements are all that is necessary to replace the small amount of water lost through the lid.

History Terrarium

Nathaniel Ward, an amateur botanist, made the first Terrarium 1827. He expressed concern about the pollution being notorious in the air in London at that time in studying butterfly cocoons placed in glass jars to protect them. After several days happily ferns found growing in your glass bottles and glass jars were environments ideal humidity for the plants that grow in love. Her idea spread quickly and terrariums became very popular, especially for conservation Rare Plant specied brought to England from abroad.

Choose plants

Terrarium plants are adapted to those love moisture and does not grow too large. Where you will place the terrarium will determine the amount of natural light and receiving plants can be chosen accordingly. For a terrarium to receive low levels of natural light choose mosses, lichens and ferns. Other options are available for terrariums receive moderate to good natural light that chubby, Irish moss, Philodendron, carnivorous plants, Jade plants, Venus fly traps and asparagus ferns. The next layer is to moss which will hold the next layer, the layer of soil in place. Special soil mixes for terrariums can use, or use a mixture of two parts loam, one part coarse builders sand and one part leaf mold. Beach sand contains impurities which may be harmful to plants and should not be used.

For a terrarium with live animals add a dish of water. Now add the plants. Depending on how the terrarium will be viewed may have plants. For a terrarium that is visible from all angles taller plants should go in the center with smaller plants around the edges. If the terrarium will be a plant secondary education can go back with the smallest in front. Be sure to keep the leaves from the glass walls of the moisture in the walls from falling over the leaves and rot.

Add any decoration, add water to land and close the lid.

Maintenance

Inspect regularly terrarium to check levels of humidity. If it seems too dry, add water to use a lord, but not water plants in May or decay. To plant a terrarium nothing more is needed.

Question – Reptile Cage …
How can we keep the soil moist reptile cage, but not the whole room?

I'm a veiled chameleon and I am doing research for this, but I live in a dry climate and does not keep any wet cage (if detected)

The best way is to get a spray bottle and fog, all the time. Make sure you get a humidifier thermometer (or a humidity sensor) to stick in the tank so you can how the tank is wet. They are inexpensive and available at the reptile shop.

Question – Reptile Garden …
baby snake. What to do?

I found a baby snake in my house at school. Only the size of a worm garden, if not less. What kind of snake can be? What should I eat? I have an aquarium with a snake's habitat has been created because we just had our reptile license and will have one. when I wake up with a stick, he bends around it, and go for it. just say if you need more information. Please help. ITT I will not die. I found it on the road to the border to Townsville. and brown with a purple belly.

Your profile page says that living in Australia. Most venomous snakes in the world are in Australia. Without a description that is impossible to say. It could be a baby snake in a variety or could be an adult snake simply no match. I suggest that identified before manipulation, even a small venomous snake can kill. If very small (no longer than your hand) you could cut into small pieces for her.

Question – Reptile Snake …
What animal (reptiles) coexist well with my corn snake?

I have a 2 male corn snake and very useful and do not mind being around Cornsnake at all. I was thinking get a reptile new to add to your terrarium, but I did not want another Cornsnake. There other snakes and other reptiles different my corn snake and would be happy with in the same terrarium?

I do not recommend to any other reptiles in the cage of a snake, few species. It is a good way of spreading the disease, parasites, have babies if they are accidental compatible (ratsnakes Horns and race), creates stress in animals (snakes are solitary creatures and do not want or need a partner) and if another man who can create a fight. Stick to allow your snake to live a healthy life, free from stress and stress reduced life. All new animals should be quarantined for a minimum of 3-6 months for all forms if you need another cage for it. The snake will not be "happy" with a cage mate. Give it a rest and let him live like snakes … alone.
