I have an iPod and created 12 Gallon Aquarium Cube and I wonder if adding supplements as Marine Kalkwasser and buffer does more harm than good. There is someone there (without access to seawater pure, of course) that maintains a biological nano Reef Aquarium sound without the use of chemical supplements?
What may or may not need to use is largely determined by what is the chemistry of water from any source you use and what agencies are trying to maintain. At one time I lived in an area where the pH is 8.3 right from the tap and never had to use additives. Where am I today, can hardly hold unused Kalkwasser 7.8. AragaMite I tried once, but made a big dent in the pH level – only about 8.0, so my hapy not yet been reversed. Since you have already tank set up and monitor your pH probably, you must have a good idea of what is yours. If less than 8 and you're only the aquarium, you may not have any problem. If you try to keep the corals or conversely, may well not with a low pH. If you use a crushed coral or aragonite (shell material) substrate, should help cushion the tank for some, but not always reached the level where it should be. It is At that time you should think about adding Kalkwasser. Is calcium hydroxide is a caustic material and enough care must be taken to use.
